A leisure and culture hub in Anderlecht.
Alongside the future La Sennette linear park, which is due to connect Porte de Ninove and what will become Abattoirs city square, a new outline is emerging, with jutting rooftops and white cladding, stretching along the entire length of the old river bed and Rue du Chimiste.
Beneath this metal curtain, sewing, ceramics, DIY and community workshop spaces are spread out among the upper floors, accessible via galleries and elevated walkways overlooking a high-ceilinged foyer that will host exhibitions.
On the park side, the volumes overlap, mixing and cutting across one another to suggest sequences, pauses and indents. These will enable users and visitors to get a better sense of the contours of the creative activities on offer and the potential of a large multi-purpose hall with excellent acoustics.
The multi-purpose hall and some of the workshop spaces are sensitively lit through the north-facing saw-tooth roofing. Other workshop spaces are flooded with soft, diffuse light from morning to evening, filtered through the delicate openings of an undulating metal cladding.
