Coronmeuse: The New Eco-District of Liège

Located on the Meuse peninsula in Liège, Coronmeuse is an exemplary eco-district developed over 25 hectares. Sweco designed the masterplan and landscaping project for the NEO LEGIA consortium, transforming this former industrial site into a model of circularity and urban sustainability.

Key Highlights of the Project:

  1. Diversity and Inclusion: A balance between housing, offices, public facilities, and recreational spaces fosters strong social and economic dynamics.
  2. Prioritization of Sustainable Mobility: Infrastructure designed to encourage walking, cycling, and public transport, reducing car dependency.
  3. Sustainable Landscape Design: Carefully integrated green spaces enhance biodiversity and residents’ well-being.
  4. Circularity and Reuse: An innovative approach to material reuse minimizes waste and maximizes the value of local resources.
  5. High Energy Performance: Passive or nearly zero-energy (NZEB) buildings lower the carbon footprint and energy requirements.
  6. Citizen Engagement: Refining spatial arrangements and programming based on residents’ input ensure the project meets their expectations and needs.

By combining urban innovation with environmental respect, Coronmeuse demonstrates how an industrial brownfield can be transformed into a balanced and sustainable urban ecosystem.
