MDW Architecture was founded in 2001 and 30 employees now contribute to the company. The workshop has acquired an international reputation thanks to key projects like the Savonnerie Heymans, the Hôtel de Police in Charleroi and the Charleroi Danses extension, the Quai de Rome Delhaize in Liège and the new RTBF headquarters in Brussels.
MDW architecture’s approach is guided by a global societal outlook. Architecture, in its material and immaterial manifestations, is the way we have chosen to express our vision. The inclusion of our activities in ethical, fair and sustainable regional development is the major challenge which presides over, and guides, our theoretical/cultural presence, our learning and our building practices.
The ability to combine creativity and sustainability, both of which are raised to the most demanding level is, without a doubt, the main trademark of our workshop.
Our approach has been rewarded with a number of awards, including nomination for the European Mies van der Rohe award in 2011, two Mipim Awards (2011 and 2012), the Prix Belge de l’Architecture et de l’Energie 2013 (collective housing category) and the prestigious Global Award for Sustainable Architecture 2013 for our overall approach.
