“Reinventing İzmir”: Roundtable Meeting in Brussels on 28 June 2022
İzmir Metropolitan Municipality is organising a roundtable meeting in Brussels on 28 June 2022 to introduce and promote the ongoing applications for the two sites in İzmir. The Mayor of İzmir, Mr. Soyer and a large high-level delegation will be in Brussels that week to attend several key meetings and events including the inauguration of İzmir’s representation office in Brussels. The target audience is real estate investment trusts/companies, investors, developers, architecture and design firms, start-ups etc. who could team up to design and build projects for a climate resilient future.
Application Ongoing for Sites in İzmir
C40 launched the third edition of Reinventing Cities last month. Twelve world-leading cities are participating in this initiative, including Bologna, Bristol, Houston, Izmir, Lyon, Milan, Montréal, Naples, Phoenix, Rome, San Francisco and São Paulo. Application is currently ongoing for two sites in İzmir.
- First one1 is the International Creativity Centre. The site is part of İzmir Metropolitan Municipality’s Kemeraltı Revitalization Program and is located in the Kestelli Region in Kemeraltı. Kestelli is the sub-region within the Historical City Centre which plans to create a centre of attraction for youth, artists, new generation companies and their employees.
- Second one2 is Zero-Carbon Convention Center & Hotel. The site is located next to the Aegean Free Zone, which is one of Turkey’s largest free zones and export bases. It is just across the Fuarİzmir, the largest exhibition venue within Turkey and is 6 kilometers from the airport and 12 kilometers from the city center.
About C40 and Its Cities
C403 was founded in 2005. It is a network of mayors of nearly 100 world-leading cities collaborating to deliver the action needed to confront the climate crisis. Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, is the current Chair of C40.
C40 member cities earn their membership through action. C40’s most distinguishing feature is that it operates on performance-based requirements, not membership fees. C40’s Leadership Standards set the minimum requirements for all member cities and ensure the integrity of C40 as a network of climate leaders.
Around the world, C40 mayors and the cities they lead are taking ambitious, collaborative and urgent climate action that aligns with science-backed targets. They work together across borders in order to protect people and communities everywhere, and build a more sustainable, resilient and equitable future.
