EU funds for a circular and inclusive built environment

The New European Bauhaus

Under the research and innovation programme Horizon Europe, a set of calls will open with the objective to revitalise European neighbourhoods with design for sustainability and inclusion. These calls are gathered under the tool named the New European Bauhaus Facility, or “NEB Facility”. It’s based on a wider EU initiative (more info here) striving to translate the European Green Deal into tangible change on the ground.

The NEB Facility will support projects on the sustainable transformation of the built environment, and aims to make the inhabitants of the built environment partners of change. A couple of calls will focus on the development of a circular and regenerative European construction ecosystem. Some of their objectives are to:

  • make buildings, building elements, construction materials and products more sustainable, adaptable, multi-purpose, durable and re-usable, increase their recycling rate and expand their lifespan;
  • improve the climate adaptability  and resilience of buildings and common spaces  through, for instance, regenerative designs and nature-based solutions;
  • ensure that the solutions developed are user-centred and place-based, connect with local cultural identity.

Please note that these calls are meant for consortiums consisting of at least three partner organisations from three different EU or associated countries.

Timeline

The NEB Facility calls will be launched in May 2025. The deadline to apply is expected 6 months later in Autumn 2025, for projects to start in 2026.

An info & networking session is organised for Brussels based organisations on April 22 by NCP Brussels. More information on this event is available on this link. Participation is free but registration is mandatory.
