Build Circular.Brussels: supporting the construction sector towards a more circular future

If there is one key player in the Brussels construction landscape that needs no introduction, it is the Confédération de la Construction. Now known as Embuild following a change of identity, the organisation continues to represent the sector with the authorities.  Sustainability, which has long been one of its priorities, has now become a driving force in supporting the move towards a more circular and responsible model, through the Build Circular.Brussels project.

What if the crisis accelerated the transition?

In 2021, against the backdrop of a general slowdown due to the health crisis, the Brussels-Capital Region decided to turn this economic hiatus into an opportunity. It was this spirit that led to the creation of the Build Circular.Brussels project, whose aim is to give companies the means to rethink their model, experiment with new approaches and discover the practical benefits of the circular economy.

The programme is run by Embuild.Brussels, jointly with Construcity.Brussels and in collaboration with Buildwise; it is fully in line with the RENOLUTION regional renovation strategy.

A team committed to serving companies

Behind Build Circular.Brussels is a team of passionate, motivated people who deeply believe in the sector’s ability to reinvent itself. Each support programme is designed as a collaboration, an open dialogue with companies. This human dimension is at the heart of the project: taking the time to listen, understand the realities on the ground and propose practical, applicable and realistic solutions.

Practical results and growing interest

Build Circular.Brussels is aimed at all professionals working in the construction sector, whether they are self-employed or running an SME or large company. It offers over 30 types of free, tailor-made support in eight key areas, such as waste management and reuse.

Since its launch, over 730 companies have been made aware of the issues involved, nearly 1,000 people have been trained – from field staff to project officers – and around 140 companies have received direct support on their worksites. These figures illustrate a reality, namely that the sector is evolving.

A programme that continues to evolve, in line with the field

The success of Build Circular.Brussels also lies in its ability to adapt. The programme continues to evolve in line with feedback from the field, so that it can offer relevant support that matches companies’ operational realities. It is not an imposed model, but a flexible framework that allows everyone to progress at their own pace. Because behind every company are committed people who want to make a difference. Each support project is led by men and women who believe in the power of teamwork and innovation. At Embuild.Brussels, pushing the limits of what’s possible is part of our DNA.
