Can a truly viable local market for reusable construction materials be created in the European Union? This is the key question that has guided the work of the Circular Cities and Regions Initiative (CCRI) working group over the past three years.
Through this collaboration, the group has worked on practical recommendations to help cities and regions develop local markets for reusable construction materials. This work also included supporting the City of Uppsala in setting up its first marketplace for reusable construction materials.
The aim is clear: to share lessons learned from both successes and challenges, inspire other cities and regions, and encourage EU-level action, particularly in shaping future Horizon calls on circular construction.
The CCRI, an initiative of the European Commission launched under the 2020 Circular Economy Action Plan, supports Europe’s green transition by boosting circularity at local and regional levels. It combines knowledge sharing, technical support and guidance for public authorities, industry, research organizations and civil society involved in circular economic initiatives.
