Reinventing Izmir : 2 sites to showcase internationally your expertise in sustainability

C40 launched the third edition of Reinventing Cities. Twelve world-leading cities are participating in this initiative, including Bologna, Bristol, Houston, Izmir, Lyon, Milan, Montréal, Naples, Phoenix, Rome, San Francisco and São Paulo. Application is currently ongoing for two sites in İzmir.

First one is the International Creativity Centre. The site is part of İzmir Metropolitan Municipality’s Kemeraltı Revitalization Program and is located in the Kestelli Region in Kemeraltı. Kestelli is the sub-region within the Historical City Centre which plans to create a centre of attraction for youth, artists, new generation companies and their employees.

Second one is Zero-Carbon Convention Center & Hotel. The site is located next to the Aegean Free Zone, which is one of Turkey’s largest free zones and export bases. It is just across the Fuarİzmir, the largest exhibition venue within Turkey and is 6 kilometers from the airport and 12 kilometers from the city center.

About C40 Reinventing Cities

Reinventing Cities is an international competition initiated by the C40 to stimulate ambitious carbon-neutral developments across the globe and to transform underutilized sites into beacons of sustainability and resilience.

Reinventing Cities will:

  • Drive collaboration between the private and public sector to deliver low carbon urban regeneration;
  • Support the implementation of inspiring solutions that can be rolled out on a global scale;
  • Help drive forward public policy-making to support decarbonized, sustainable and resilient cities;
  • Accelerate the change and innovation in the global building sector, which is responsible for 40% of emissions.

Therefore, each Reinventing Cities project should serve as a model for carbon-neutral development, demonstrating innovative and replicable climate solutions and providing local community benefits.
