The PREUSE Symposium is a professional and academic event on the public management of reclaimed construction materials. It will take place on June 4–5, 2026 in Mechelen and Brussels.

The PREUSE Symposium is a unique event that brings together stakeholders from various fields (research, public sector, and private sector). Its aim is to foster interdisciplinary exchanges around reuse infrastructure supported by public authorities.

 

Public reuse centres are physical infrastructures that store and/or prepare construction materials for future reuse. They play a key role in the transition towards a circular and sustainable economy.

 

The symposium is intended in particular for:

  • public officials and policymakers
  • researchers (ecology, urban planning, sociology, etc.)
  • professionals involved in construction material reuse

Programme

Day 1 : Mechelen

  • Welcome and introduction to the PREUSE project
  • Conferences on reuse challenges (labour, urban planning, materials)
  • Networking lunch
  • Round tables and case studies
  • Networking dinner (optional)
  • Keynote lecture by Finn Williams

Day 2 : Brussels

  • Site visits of reuse infrastructures
  • Networking lunch
  • Practical workshops (strategy, architecture, experience sharing)
  • End of the symposium
